April Income Report

I may actually be figuring this blogging thing out! Or at least I thought so at the beginning of the month. April was a good month for my blogging “career” even with the bumps and stumbles. It just took four months!

April Income Report

Revenue

My revenue came from many sources this month. I even got an Affiliate Sale! As usual, I also made money through Ads and Swagbucks

Ads

This is actually a system I changed! I made it into Mediavine which requires at least 25K in sales views. I’m lucky that I got these views in February, but it took until April to get everything set up. Because I got into Mediavine, I had to cancel my other two sources. I am no longer part of Google Adsense or Media.net. I made a little over $11 with Google Adsense, which I’m lucky I will get in the mail soon. Unfortunately, I will not make anything from Media.net because I hadn’t hit their threshold.

For beginner bloggers, I recommend getting into Google Adsense. If you plan on making money through ads, you might want to get your viewers used to seeing ads. If they are regulars and randomly start seeing ads, they might think that you are selling out or becoming tacky.

Luckily, since I’ve started Mediavine on April 23rd, I’ve already made $2.20. They don’t have a threshold, but they take 75 days to payout, so I won’t get my $2.20 until July. At least I’m getting paid for the time being.

Affiliate Marketing

Until recently, I didn’t make any affiliate sales. It’s hard to get someone to buy something that you’re interested in without being too salesy. Fortunately, I did make some sales this month!

I recently joined The Society which has its own affiliate program. I managed to sell two of the courses in this program, Find your Tribe Online and Fantastic Freebies. This made me $17.60.

I also made two sales through Amazon! I had to practically beg for the sales in order to not lose my program, but I’m so excited to say I got $1.25 from this program.

Swagbucks

It’s not unusual for me to make money through Swagbucks. I didn’t make as much as I was hoping I would, but it’s awesome to see that I can trust the program each month. If you haven’t checked out Swagbucks, I really recommend it. Who doesn’t want to make money watching videos and answering surveys?

Expenses

I tried to budget myself when it comes to expenses this month. I only bought three things and so far, I’m very glad I did.

Post By Number

Post by Number is a Suzi Whitford (from StartAMomBlog) course. Her books have been such an inspiration to me in the blogging world that I couldn’t miss this opportunity. This course puts you through the process of creating a good, traffic boosting post to your blog. When you’re done with the course, Suzi will post it on her new blog! She’ll even promote it on her social media which is very good for boosting your own blog income! All of this for only $9!

Social Media Premium

I already had the free version of the Ultimate Social Media plug-in, but I wanted to have the ability to stumble my post or have other’s do it. StumbleUpon is supposed to help get some blog traffic, so I feel like I justified my purchase. We’ll see if this is true in the next couple of days. This was $24.95 a year.

Ultimate Bloggers Toolkit

If you’re part of my email list, which you really should be, you’ll know that I am part of the Ultimate Bundles Affiliate Program. Through this program, a bunch of bloggers got their products together and created a bundle for a super low price. There’s more than $6,000 worth of products. I’ll be giving more information about this on my email list, but I can tell you that I got it 40% off because I am an affiliate!

April Income Overview

As you can see, I spent more money than I made once again, but I can justify all my purchases and don’t regret them.

  • Total Revenue: $46.05
  • Total Expenses: $92.15
  • Net Income: -$46.10

I cannot emphasize enough how difficult blogging is. It’s not as easy as you’ll see people mention on Pinterest and it takes a lot more work. They say you’ll get as much as you put into it, so you better put a lot into it if you want a lot.

  1. I couldn’t agree more, blogging is a big commitment and isn’t a “get rich quick” scheme. It takes a lot of work, drive and perseverance! That being said, I really enjoyed your post!!!

Thank you so much, Emily! After my first month blogging, I realized that this wasn’t going to be a get rich quick kind of thing. I’m so glad that I’ve stuck with it, but I’m definitely spending more money than I’m making!

  2. Couldn’t agree more. I’ve been writing my blog since 2015 but have only just lately started to get into seriously promoting it. It is so so refreshing to see someone give a really honest account of earnings and what you are doing month by month. I’m not up to speed with ads and affiliate links yet but hopefully I’ll start the journey soon. Looking forward to your next update x

  3. Yea it’s kinda unfortunate that we have to spend to make money. I was doing something like Swagbucks just for a few dollars to cover blogging expenses. I’m also seeing that this is a long journey and even people like Suzi has admitted that, altho they made money in their first or second month, it was after starting the SECOND blog. Most of the bloggers making money “quick” either did a ton of setting up -like months of prep- before even launching or they had money to start (paying someone else to do the setup quickly) OR they simply had another blog for a year or two that taught them what to do and ended up starting another. Same with Create and Go folks. Same with Pat Flynn. Same with …well you get the point 🙂
